There's a Pre Application Consultation on a proposal for a 250 berth marina, boatyard and holiday homes about 0.5 mile east of Dunstaffnage. What do people think? I don't know what to make of it.

Re: New marina by Dunstaffnage
'07 I asked about using a mooring in that bay, and the guy who owned the pier and access, gave story about having previously been the owner of Dunstaffnage and he wan't putting in moorings because be planned to put in a marina......
B-S or maybe I mis remember, but its a good spot and if protected from bad weather, could be a good facility.
The usual sequence is that the original investor starts, runs out of cash and someone else buys it cheap. No doubt there is demand, for housing and for marina facilities.
I think its a good idea, wish them well and hope it goes through quickly

Stayed on a mooring there for a couple of weeks years ago - Suileman (sp?) Bay if I remember correctly. There's a fair old tide - worse than Dunstaffnage - ripping through the moorings at time and can get lumpy.
As mentioned before landing stage was owned by local landowner who was going to 'develop' the area so moorings were removed, but that was ages ago.

The more the merrier. I would like to see many marinas and downward pressure on prices due to over supply of berths. It’s not going to happen though. Maybe the odd marina developed every half century.

I guess that would have been Michael Campbell, the Captain of Dunstaffnage, who owns a lot of the land in the vicinity. I don't think he ever was involved in running Dunstaffnage but he operated the moorings at Fisherman's Wharf, Saulmore Bay, for a while.Gardenshed wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 11:39 pm '07 I asked about using a mooring in that bay, and the guy who owned the pier and access, gave story about having previously been the owner of Dunstaffnage and he wan't putting in moorings because be planned to put in a marina......

As I understand it, he owns the land involved in this new proposal but again, is not involved beyond leasing the ground.

That was the chap. Very friendly and helpful. Gave us a run from the moorings into Connel to catch the train.cpedw wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 9:40 amI guess that would have been Michael Campbell, the Captain of Dunstaffnage, who owns a lot of the land in the vicinity. I don’t think it is a good location for a marina. Too exposed from NW to NE. That bit of water can kick up quite badly when wind is against tide. With anthropogenic warming well underway could it create a more probable risk of extreme wind and wave damage? I think so. Perhaps as a summer marina. Would it be any worse than say Kerrera or Ardfern?
