new Antares charts for 2020

Post by Burst Boiler »

Just got my email from Bob. Anyone gone through the new additions to see if there's anything interesting or useful? I see Kingairloch (Loch a Coirre or whatever) up Loch Linnhe is in - I haven't been back since they lifted the mooring at the boathouse because it seemed a dodgy anchorage, so hopefully the charts make it doable again.

With Covid and the surrealism of the last 2 years, 2020 is about right

Despite having sold our last boat I could not resist the upgrade, new laptop so went for the expensive, (£15) option, already had my moneys worth in armchair exploration.
Notice that Bob reports that Cmal have banned all anchoring at Scalasaig, going to be interesting when they try to enforce that?

Update re Colonsay
To clarify, the restriction is just within 200m. of the pier, so ignore my last post.

I've loaded the 2022 version but can't see anything about 200m on the Scalasaig chartlet. What am I doing wrong?

I don't see anything either about a 200m limit.
I was there recently (last year?) and they were overhauling the pier. I got asked not to tie to the piers boarded up part, so we had to anchor and row ashore. We anchored N of the pier, between it and the rock on N sside.
NTM 05/22 (1 Jan 2022) from Calmac advises ongoing work there due to complete in Feb this year. (or does it take as long as it takes to build a ferry....?)

What statutory rights do they have to forbid anchoring?.

I wouldn’t anchor anywhere near their route in and out of their berthing areas on a ferry day but dislike their approach to yotties sailing about..

I had a "run in" in Castlebay, when anchored between the pontoons and ferry terminal. I was in 5m, so the ferry unlikely to run me down, but they complained anyway!
