Christmas plans fekked

Post by claymore »

Dear Heart and I were booked to go to the land of perpetual half light for Christmas.
Got to Hull yesterday afternoon for the overnighter to Rotterdam to be told that the Germanians have not only closed their borders to visitors - they are not allowing people to transit either.
So here we are - back home. Papers cancelled, online food slot cancelled, Dear Heart in advanced stages of misery and me about to unload the van and unpack.
Oh Joy

Sorry to hear about that, it can't be easy to have that degree of expectation and then have it dashed at the first hurdle.

In a similar way, we are waiting for daughters Covid test results to come through as she has been caught in a chain of possible infection. But it goes further than that and is causing / caused a lot of tensions and rather upsetting as well. Everyone is getting sick of this. I try and keep a level head, believing that restrictions are needed, but I doubt that as well. For example, I have friends in the USA, most deaths in the world, and as far as I can tell, from their FB posts, life goes on as normal - Vegas visits, California visits, friends round for parties, meals out, family gatherings.

Anyway, hope you can get some semblance of control over your Christmas, do try and have a good one.

Sorry to hear about the cancelled plans.
Our daughter just arrived from Helsinki, but the last week has been on/off with covid exposure alerts, latflow tests and pcr tests to get on the flight. Now it’s fingers crossed she still passes everything to be allowed on the plane to return in January
Masses of additional stress and angst for journeys that used to be so simple

Well, at least the days are getting longer….

Sorry for you all and I share your pain. Literally.
We were out for a meal with our son and his partner on the 13th and three days later he called to say that they had both just tested positive. Now we were all supposed to be going to our daughter's house for Christmas dinner and young Kenny and partner would have been free from isolation that day but on Tuesday this week our grandson (aged 11) tested positive and that was confirmed by PCR so her house is a no go area this weekend. We have been LFTing and are clear. So far but it looks like a Zoom party is now the only option.

Sorry to hear that.
Will this mean that you have tae get some grub purchased?
My pal and long time crewmate the Muzz invited Dear Heart round for Boxing Day but we are apparently seeing the Sister of Dear Heart who is without kidneys so is vulnerable.
This is a great shame because Mrs Muzz is the finest cook you ever did meet - which accounts fer my porkie wee pal

There's nae God.

I imagine that you (Claymore) would also have the food problem after your aborted trip to Daneland. We had a quick trip to Tesco this morning and managed to grab the last Turkey breast from the chill shelves, along with a load of other stuff.

Well I hope that wherever we end up whether with friends or family or both that we manage to spread some Christmas cheer.

See you all in the other side...

Well, I hope you all had a nice day.

Self and Catherine spent our second Christmas on our own on the boat in a Portuguese marina. We had intended to return to Caledonia for the festivities, but Omicron, the testing costs and latterly a diagnosis of DVT put paid to that.

Nonetheless, we had a lovely day with all the usual accoutrements and a nice sunny walk down the beach.

Hoping to maybe get back towards the end of next month, by which time hopefully the pandemic will be showing signs of burning itself out and the nichts will be fairly drawing out.

In the meantime, try not to get too worried about the fact that 2022 is pronounced 2020 too.
