Why Bother Owning a Sailing Boat and Puilladobhrain

Post by BlowingOldBoots »

Yesterday I sailed under jib alone at a stately 2-3 kts from Tobermory to Loch Aline. Very few sailed yesterday with the majority motoring, even with the tide.

Today I sailed from Loch Aline to Puilladobhrain, mostly, except at the narrow bit and at the bottom of Lismore, where beating against the current was futile. Many yachts passed me, going northwards with the near springs flow, motoring.

Have sailors given up sailing, has leisure sailing become deadline driven or worse, people just can’t be arsed anymore beyond pushing a button to start the engine. It was quite sad to see boats that would be sailing faster than they were motoring.

There are 11 boats in my favourite anchorage, Puilladobhrain, tonight. On occasion, it gets a bad rap from those who sail frequently in these waters, but it’s always beautiful, tranquil (when the stink pot engines and 2 stroke outboards are switched off) and has glorious sunsets. And of course The Trowser venue is just a short row and walk away.
