Anti-fouling - bulk purchase again anyone?

Post by mm5aho »

I'm considering another bulk purchase of anti-fouling.
Last time we did Cruiser type only, but I think its possible to do both a cruising type and a performance type.
They come in 2.5 litre cans.
It would be possible to add varnish too (also in 2.5 litre cans) but I suspect anyone wanting that much varnish will have their favourite brands of that stuff. I do, and I will not be buying this brand varnish. Nothing wrong with it, but on varnish I want to stick to one brand.
I can buy single cans at one price, half pallets (75 cans) at discount, and whole pallet (147 cans) at even bigger discount.
For your reference, the maximum price would be £28 per 2.5 litre, possibly getting as low as £26, but I doubt I can find 147 homes for cans of anti-foul.
I'd get it all delivered to one place, and You would need to collect from one of several places that I frequent. G67 EH48, and IV30 postcodes.
Manufacturers recommended rate is 10m2/litre. Colours available in both are: Black, Dark Blue, Light Blue, Red, White.
In order to assist the planning, and indeed to decide if its worth the bother (I'm not doing this for profit, you get the same price as I do), let me know if you're interested. How many cans of either Cruising, or Performance. Colour choice not important at this stage. I can tell you that the shelf life of this stuff is several years. Last time I bought 4 cans.

I will post this in another place to see what additional interest there might be. There's no guarantee this will go ahead, but I'll let you know in good time to make alternative arrangements.
If interested, please email me at geoffrey.crowley@googlemail.com

Seems to be great value, I assume it's tried and tested, what make is it?

Flag. Seems to be the company that make for several resellers too, such as the Gaelforce own brand.
I have used it for several years now, (the Cruising variety) and it works fine for me. Slime only, which is easily brushed off.
I don't know how well it does if you don't use the boat. I see some in marinas hardly moved, and weeds half a metre long. I suspect that being used helps keep the bottom clean.

Not much interest shown so far, so might not be sensible to do it this year?

Thanks Geoff. I've highlighted it to TCC council to at least make the membership aware.

I'd be keen to get some for my wee hunter too, currently got Gaelforce own brand on so more of the same at a cheaper price sounds good to me :D I'd be looking for 1 or 2 cans of the cruising type please.

Think we're at about 25 cans so far.

What's the chance of this happening? Timing?

The chances are now good. Took a while to get a reasonable list of participants.
I hope to do it pre Christmas, hopefully during November.
I'll be emailing participants soon with details. (It's more positive to deal with each by email that wonder if someone read a post in the way you might have wondered if I'd read yours. (took me 4 days!)

If you haven't emailed me yet, please do. Then I also know who I'm dealing with as opposed to the anonymity of a posting pseudonym on this or other forums.

About to place the order for this paint.
It's going to be £28 per can for cruising grade (choice of colours) and ££53 for performance (hard racing type)
If you want to back out, now's the time to do it.
If you want to join in, hurry up and let me know (preferably email as first post)

I've stickied this post for 30 days.

Maybe you should put it in the 'Shooting The Breeze' forum as well.
