Results from the online survey are now available http://obanharbour.scot/information/oba ... bmissions/ in four pdfs. There were over 550 responses, almost unanimously opposed to a CMAL harbour authority, over 80% from leisure boaters.
Oban Bay Management Group (CMAL, Argyll & Bute Council and NLB) are holding another Public Meeting on Thursday 6 September at 7.30pm at Corran Halls, Oban, to discuss feedback from the survey and to update the community on OBMG activity on the harbour authority arrangements.
There has been a move from the Oban Bay Stakeholders Group (fishermen, yotties, local businesses etc.) to investigate establishing a Trust Port in Oban but this will take time and a lot of money. Meanwhile, councillors from Argyll & Bute Council have started to show an interest in extending the existing Municipal Port as an interim measure.

Re: Oban Bay Harbour Authority - developments
CMAL should never have control over Oban or any other port they operate from...
Re: Oban Bay Harbour Authority - developments
There's to be yet another public meeting, 7pm, Thursday 28 March in the Argyllshire Gathering Halls, Breadalbane Street, Oban.
A new body has been formed, Oban Community Harbour Development Association, which hopes to implement a Trust Port. Calmac still aren't keen on that but the Council and NLB apparently favour that approach now. We will see.

Trust Ports may not be a good idea if this article in Wiki is anything to go by and the alleged nepotistic, self serving shysters of the Oban area, whom could be reasonably expected to serve their own needs.

There's no doubt that it needs careful composing but given the history, there will be sure to be representation from CMAL, NLB, ABCBlowingOldBoots wrote:Trust Ports may not be a good idea if this article in Wiki is anything to go by and the alleged nepotistic, self serving shysters of the Oban area, whom could be reasonably expected to serve their own needs.

There are several Scottish (unlike the Wiki) examples that seem to be varyingly satisfactory : e.g. Tobermory, Mallaig, Ullapool, Lochinver. All different but meeting the local need.
IMHO nothing could be worse for the rest of us than a Calmac monopoly.
