Rival 34 for sale
Just a heads up, if you know anybody who might be looking for a solid go-anywhere boat. Equipped with Aries wind-vane, lying Stornoway. This is a bereavement sale so I am still getting details sorted but get in touch with any questions.

Oh dear! If it's the boat I think it is, that is very sad.

Re: Rival 34 for sale
Very sad indeed. It is Jim McWhir's Rival34 "Rona".
We'd got to know Jim from playing with him at the sessions the Old Inn in Carbost, two or three years ago. We'd caught up with him again at the end of May in Stromness during the Orkney Folk Festival and were hoping to see him again when we sailed to Carbost earlier this month. We were shocked to learn that Jim had passed away the previous week.
A very, very decent guy and a fine fiddle player.

Co-incidentally, there's an obituary to Jim in today's "Times" at https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/obit ... -fsdk8dlj7, a pay site for which I do not have a subscription.

Price now reduced to £9000 for a quick sale. The family are keen to wrap everything up soon so somebody is going to get a bargain.
In the interests of full disclosure, there are a couple of issues apparent which ordinarily would be resolved before sale. The gearbox seems to be losing a bit of oil, and there is play in the cutless bearing. However the engine was only installed in 2010 so it can't be that bad. The sails are pretty tired and the genoa is not a greta fit, it must be secondhand.
