All Ships Calls on DSC

Post by marisca »

What am I doing wrong? The radio goes off with a loud ringing noise, the screen says All Ships Call, I press Accept, the radio switches to Ch 67, then ....... nothing. This has now happened a wheen of times. Only things I can think of is that it's Holyhead CG or somewhere that sets off the digital call but is too far away for voice or I'm doing something stupid.

The mmsi number of the sender will identify which CG sent the call.

i've also been annoyed by this. From memory the last time it happened it did identify as Stornoway CG presumably as someone with time on their hands entered various CG centres' `mmsi numbers into the radio's memory.
I do miss the old green Sailor VHF with the big clicky dial for channel selection and a telephone handset.

One of the few times my DCS has called my attention to the radio, (other than mayday calls) it was a ship to ship call from Marisca!

Best times are when the recipient is approaching a mark rounding, about to hoist a spinnaker or is trying to pick up a mooring.
