Rattly TP10

.
My only 2 seasons old TP10 has gone a bit noisy and rattly.

Anyone know of a local fixer?

WTF is a TP10?

Can it be welded? Glued?

Is the TP 10.1 much better?

Is it less than 2 years old? I think there may be a 2 year guarantee with them. There was with Raymarine Tiller pilots. Even if not there is consumer rights law. Bit of a minefield but worth a try.

Now I look you are right - there is a 2-year warranty and it is within it.

I don't have a receipt though, and it was bought for me by a third party to take advantage of their discount.

Am pursuing it though I don't hold out much hope.

I had a tp 10 that lasted just over 2 years before it started making similar noises. It was the small drive belt that had stretched. I replaced it. Not a difficult job but it didn't last long after that. Bought a ray marine st2000 for the present boat. Much better bit of kit.

Wind vanes or below deck pilots are the only way to go...

The only decent outside in the rain pilot I ever owned was a Navico wheel pilot that is sadly no longer made.

My original TP10 lasted many years - in fact it still works most of the time in a flat calm. It was repaired in the Azores (a gear repair) using liquid metal by MAYS for (I think) 40 euros in 2007.

I've had a Simrad TP30 for 5 years. Plenty of use, gets wet at times, hard work occasionally (mainly in strong winds when singlehanded), and still going well.
Should I be worried about its imminent demise?

Might be a bit extreme, but someone on TOP is selling a never-used TP10 for £220... would solve the ratly problem :)

Found the receipt - on the boat of all places - and have set in motion (hopefully) the process of getting it repaired under warranty.

Will let you know how I get on.

Well, Gael Force in Inverness insisted it was only a one year warranty and sat on it for three weeks, but have now agreed that it ZiS a two year warranty and sent it back to Simrad for repair, so hopefully this tale will have a happy ending.
