Dreaming of sailing to Isle of Man for the TT race.

anyone deviant enough to have done so?

wasn't planing bringing a bike. wife says no

Yes did it last year. Stayed in Peel Marina for a few days. Stopped at Port Patrick on the way down and way back. If i remember correctly its 42 miles from Portpatrick. Leave there at low water but not too low water as it gets a bit shallow in the entrance (don't ask how I know ). I woukd leave 1 hour before LW.
That gives you max run with the tide all the way down to Peel and means you should get in if you choose to go there. Peel has a flap gate accessible about 2 hrs either side of high tide. You can wait outside on a buoy if you miss it but it can be very lump in a northerly. Gate opening times are published on line

I read that Peel can get very busy at that time so I called ahead to check but the very friendly and helpful staff said it would be fine and they would get me in somewhere. I got on a pontoon ok. The harbour master was waiting at the bridge with directions for me on a a4 bit of paper on the end of a big stick for me to grab as i passed I had a map of pontoons and mine highlighted. Nice touch! . By the time I got to the berth he was there waiting to take my lines.

No just the same. The prices seemed very expensive to me when I arrived but when I went to check out and pay I thought he'd made a mistake so I questioned it and I think he said they only charge for full 24hr periods so it was a lot less than I thought it was going to be anyway I didn't argue.

We were down at Douglas - straight run from Troon 22 hours. Crowded marina, but they'll get you in. The centre of activity as far as getting in amongst the pits etc. We liked the town, but listening to the locals it sounds dead outwith TT time. For the actual business, I guess you really want to watch the telly as you get a rider every 10 secs over a few hundred yards otherwise. Think I rather fancy the autumn session with REAL bikes that smell and sound proper.
This year we're looking at the northern 200 if the weather's good, then a bit of the north coast of Ireland or up the West - whichever... .

It's a family tradition to go over on the Isle of Man Ferry from Liverpool. I think it started when someone was heading for New Brighton and got on the wrong boat. Chiron's still got her Douglas Marina registration number on her side and registration papers so we may sneak in.
