Well done, opens a whole new avenue of rant potential... here's mine.

When I learned that the manufacturer of my car had employees bright enough to engineer a system clever enough to circumvent emissions testing, the engineer in me had a quiet admiration for them.
But driving in the rain and especially the deeper puddles that the lack of adequate sized road drainage creates, has caused the undertray of that same car to fail my engineers admiration, shifting my opinion to "they can do the sophisticated stuff OK, but can't get the basics right"
The undertray is some form of material somewhere between cardboard and plastic. Its attached with steel coarse thread screws and spring steel clips, and these fail after the second or third removal. (and some must be removed for servicing). So now my undertray drags on the road, I pull off another piece and bin it, and nest storm yet another piece comes loose. This autumn I did a good job securing it in double the number of places, but the whole fabric of the tray is disintegrating.
I did look into getting a new tray.

I appear to be in the doghouse.
I spent all of Monday in the pouring rain retrieving the Micro 18 from Windermere. Rather stupidly but in my gladness to have got the job done and all safely tied onto the trailer, I chucked my cap and waterproofs into the car and set off for home.
Dear Heart climbed onto the seat yesterday morning and let out a howl as she sat in a puddle.
Oops.
