Re: Bulk Purchasing and Buying Power
Well I carried out my scientific test on my supposed 16 kg Delta yesterday. Making some allowance for instrument error (bathroom scales and marked off watering can) the anchor weighed 15.4 kg and displaced 2.5 l which I reckon gives a density of 6.2. So that would seem to confirm that it's steel. I might be able to drop off chain & anchor later this week / early next, once I get hold of waterproof labels...

Don't worry too much about the quality of labels. Our guys will label anyway with labels that are waterproof. Just some thing that has name on it, to bridge the gap between you leaving it and him labelling it. (Which might be immediate depending on what else is arriving)

I'm thinking along the lines of a piece cut out of a square milk carton, a cable tie, and a waterproof sharpie pen.mm5aho wrote:Don't worry too much about the quality of labels. I've acquired by negotiation three of SWMBO's plant labels, now marked up in indelible pencil: one for each end of the chain and one for the anchor. I'm hoping to make the delivery tomorrow.mm5aho wrote:Don't worry too much about the quality of labels. Our guys will label anyway with labels that are waterproof. Can we add our name to the list? We will take the chain off our Rival 36 tomorrow and try and drop it off over the next couple of weeks.

Yes of course. Should be enough info in the earlier parts of this thread.Pilgrim wrote:Can we add our name to the list? We will take the chain off our Rival 36 tomorrow and try and drop it off over the next couple of weeks.

Geoff- looks like I will be in Elgin a week Saturday- would somebody be around? Or does it need to be during normal hours?

We usually decide on a Thursday if there's work for the weekend. This industry has no forward visibility, so we only plan a day or two ahead. At this stage I'd guess unlikely, but it can all change in hours, just like the Scottish Weather!

Re: Bulk Purchasing and Buying Power
Anchor and chain dropped off this morning. There's actually 2 chains: 40m of 8mm and about 300mm of 10mm - each labelled "D. Simpson".

Here now (a.m. 24th) are the following:
DS (DaveS): a chain, a Simpson Lawrence anchor, and a short 7 link chain.
Wishdish: a chain
PB (Mehitabel), a chain
RD (Ghillie): a chain.
I'm collecting mine this weekend to add to the pile, chain and 2 x CQRs

Re: Bulk Purchasing and Buying Power
I hope to be passing through Elgin en route to Aberdoon on Sunday next, probably early evening, ferries permitting.... Any suggestions where I might leave a pile ( maybe 40m) of 5/16 chain? Failing that, returning from Aberdeen on Thursday morning, could drop it off then if its not too late?
Leaving from Stornoway via Ullapool and Inverness if any needs picking up on the way.
