Canna questions........

Post by Ocklepoint »

Hi

How are the moorings in Canna? Still there? How many? Decent pickups? Is there usually one available? Stupid question I know

( I don't fancy turning up alone in Canna on the new to me boat with not the best anchor in the world and not finding a mooring)

I'm heading up to Stormyway and the music festival. Any other BMers planning to be there? Come and say Hi, "Hirta" a Rival 34

Thanks

There's ten moorings in a horseshoe shape around the outside of the anchorage. They didn't have pick ups last year. Should they all be taken, there's still plenty of room to anchor, last time I was in, they were 20 other boats, 10 on moorings and 11 anchored.

Webmeister Nick is probably ahead of you, perhaps Skye or the Uists by now. At least that was the plan when he called in at the Ardtornish Bay Bistro and Wine Bar.

Talking of music, just been listening to a very fine set at An Tobar from Iain Thompson, aka the Singing Shepherd (guitar, piano, vocals), and the incomparable Marc Duff on whistles (various), bodhran, Irish bouzouki and uillean pipes.

Hoping to make it to SY late Thursday... boat no longer the one in my profile pic, we can be identified by lack of guardrails and a reasonable menagerie of hangers on...

Well, Fairwinds met up with Mavanier and Ocklepoint in Stornoway and a good time was had by all.

In spite of the weather.

Anchored in Canna on the way back (all moorings taken - no issues. If only all moorings were laid as sensitively)

Is that you back home Nick? Was good to catch up.
My Mum enjoyed the trip back to Skye- plenty of dolphins, porpoise, and a wee tour around the Shiants along the way. Managed to sail about half the distance and then, ahem, sail the last two miles when the engine died. Which is why you practise picking up moorings under sail.

Hi Rob,

Yes, got back on Monday evening after a new record of three entire days stuck in Lochmaddy !

Great to see you and Karen again, and your Mum - say hi to both the ladies in your life from me.
