Happy Birthday Flobbets

Post by ash »

Happy Birthday Mike.

It's been a while since you looked in here.

I wonder if you still have Alauda at Banff?

Many thanks for the birthday wishes Ash.

Oddly enough, I've just arrived home from Alauda. She's currently moored at Laggan Locks on the Caley, on her way back to the West coast. My older son Jamie is going to live aboard her (in Dunstaffnage Marina!) while doing a BSc Marine Science at SAMS. We aim to complete the trip next weekend.

We had taken her out of Banff this Spring and took her round to Peterhead, allowing Jamie to practice living aboard while Dinghy instructing there. She was berthed directly opposite Rowana of this parish, although we didn't see Jim - I would have claimed that cup of tea!

Meanwhile Albion (our Westerly Pentland) is still in Linnhe Marine, having just had a new Beta 30 plus all the trimmings installed. Our bank manager wants to know when we can go back to the old system, where we banked with him instead of the other way round.

I really should post more on this forum instead of just reading....

You would have been more than welcome to a cup of tea - I might even have let you have a biscuit or two to go along with it.

Perhaps our paths may cross yet.

[edit] Oh, and happy birthday as well !

Thanks for that kind offer. Our paths may indeed cross, as Tim, a friend of mine, has just acquired a new boat and has sailed her from her old home of Whitby to Peterhead. Rosira is an interesting old girl, having been originally built in 1939 for an army officer who never came back from the war. She languished unfinished and unlaunched for many years, was bought by Carla Lane (writer of Butterflies on the telly), and then restored to a high standard by the last owner, an engineer who thought nothing of machining parts from solid bronze.

I don't envy Tim the maintenance, but Rosira is lovely! Just look through the photos on http://www.thorneengineers.co.uk/rosira.html (assuming I've inserted the link correctly) - talk about work!

Was up in Peterhead today and saw your friends yacht. She is on a visitors pontoon so I'm assuming he's moving her on sometime soon.

I agree that she's lovely, but like you, I don't fancy the maintenance!

No, she's staying, at least until Spring. Currently awaiting a space which Jim is hopeful of providing at some point.
