New marina for Mallaig

The new marina has been open a while now and as predicted is doing well, it is busy during the summer and we see a wide variety of boats from far and wide, a lot of people are using it to rest up for a day or two and it also good for picking and dropping off crew as it has the railway station close by, Chris who runs it, runs it well, possibly going to be extended in the near future due to its success, we even saw a few hardier souls using it in January and February this year. There are plans I believe to situate showers near to the pontoon and a laundry, but these are dependant on a building becoming available.

Is the old seamens mission now shut? Used to do a fine breakfast...

Yes, it's been shut for a few years now.
If and when the public toilets are moved to the new village hall, they're hoping to develop the old toilets and village hall for use by the marina, at least that's what I heard.
There's been a bit of a debate about the cost of the marina , £2 per metre plus vat, a bit pricey considering the lack of facilities, however last year it included electricity. This year they're charging an extra £3.50 per night for electricty!

We enjoyed our visit to Mallaig last week. The "new" marina of good quality and large spacious pontoons was excellent and a good stopover. The harbour was quiet with only a small number of fishing boats in comparison with its hey day and we never heard them leave in the early hours. As previously said about toilet and shower facilities being required within the marina area and to justify the price of £19 + electricity charge of over £3 for a wee Vega. Mallaig we found to have enough shops, stores and eating places to keep us happy - we dont get out much" The Fishermans Mission was open and offering a menu at reasonable prices as always with a wee second hand bookshop on the go. All in all Mallaig was fine.
