.
When I went to fit the new NASA masthead wind unit yesterday I discovered that the holes for the self-tappers were enlarged and the prevous unit had obviously been held on largely by Sikaflex and luck.
A trip into Oban to Nancy Black's to peruse the usual twirly display of Holt prepacks had the usual result - everything except the size I wanted. I've just been on the phone to Ardfern and discovered that they now sell pretty much the entire range of common A4 stainless fittings loose . . . 4 screws the size I want (5.5 x 38mm) are 28p each, as opposed to two or three times that for a prepack.
A good chandlery just got even better.

The new rack they've built took ferking ages but is well worth it!
Instead of the footery wee cardboard packs of screws that everywhere else sells, they have drawers of loose stuff so you only need to buy the 3 bits you need instead of whatever is in the pack.
The downside is of course that in a few years time you won't have that one extra screw lying around that is just the one you need..
I'm pretty sure Ardfern has the best chandlery in Scotland.
Gies a shout if your coming down - I'll put the kettle on.
