Think we have been had!

We made an online purchase for an item from an Irish company.
On getting to the checkout we had the option of paying by card or paypal, the latter we dont use so opted for credit card.
We subsequently recieved email confirmation of payment and reciept number, not from the company but from paypal.
That was two wks ago and we have heard nothing from the company even though I emailed them.
They dont have a phone number or postal address on their contacts link.
We are now thinking we have been had.
What should we do?
Advice appreciated.

Your Credit Card (not Debit ) should give you some protection if sum involved was more than £100.

Pay Pal should give you better protection - I think - I'm no expert.

I suspect that even if you don't have a Pay Pal account, you still paid via Pay Pal.

If the item is coming from China then there could still be time for it to arrive.

It was a credit card payment although it seems like paypal act an a agent for the company.
It was for £30 odds, not a huge amount but enough for a poor sole like me
I have emailed the company again advicing them of my intended actions if they dont deliver the goods. (I dont mean drastic actions like shoplifting the place)

Did your junk mail not contain confirmation of order and tracking info from the vendor?
Has your card actually been debited by Paypal?

Is it possible the transaction didn't fully complete and you haven't been had after all? - but then again - nothing to look forward to in the post...

I know it is a bit late, but - rule #1 in this house if there are no 'proper' contact detail on the website, move on to another which does. If you can't easily talk to someone from the seller, it's dodgy IMO.

Credit cards gove good protection and for that reason are a good way to buy. (there are other reasons why you might not)
Paypal isn't too bad in potection either. I've had refunds from Ebay purchases not delivered, after using Paypal.

But don't be too hasty. Give them reasonable time to deliver. Has the post ever been delayed at your place? It has at mine! Recently got a letter redirected marked "Not Bathgate Australia" (and I didn't even know that there was a Bathgate in Oz. Maybe the West Lothian one is named after that one??

Don't panic, it'll probably come right. If not get credit card system in action.

Thanks all for advice.
I browsed the web for contact details for Paypal but seemingly you cant contact them unless you are registered and logged in with them, which I dont want to do.
Will give it another few days and maybe then cancel the credit card payment.
Unfortunatly I had made the purchase before checking for contact details with Falcon Fires Ltd.

Don't give up hope just yet. Last year I ordered a piece of kitchen hardware online from a firm in Manchester. I paid by credit card, about £45. The website promised next day delivery. About a month later I remembered the order and it hadn't been delivered. so I went back to the website to find some details. I sent an email and found a phone number. When the phone line was unobtainable several times over two days, I was convinced it was a dead horse. Goods were delivered the next day! I don't plan to use them again.

The page has a name and phone number for a guy to do the servicing - Is it worth phoning him for info / reassurance?

Co has assets and stock, but little cash. Its credit rating is not great, but not all that bad for an SME in Ireland in a recession.
Shareholders are Ian Conboy and Marie Conboy (50% each) and they are also the only directors. They are not directors of any other companies in the UK or Ireland.
There are no known subsidiaries of the Co, and the company is not owned by another company. There are no fraud warnings, or other possible credit risk hints listed on my sources.


Hope that's helpful. But if I got the wrong Co, then its irrelevant!

Reading the thread in TOP about shore power etiquette, there are some clearly very scary people over there who would exact a dreadful revenge on people just for borrowing a few amps.
Perhaps a PM to them would be a good idea and get some good old fashoned enforcement measures in place.

This is the same company, oddly enough the name on the Paypal email reciept we recieved was Darragh Conboy.
And coincidently Sligo is where I was brought up and lived for 25 years before I moved to Glasgow.
I hadent done anything about it since last post as away for wk end.
Will phone tomorrow and try my look.
Hope its not Conboy by name and Conboy by nature

I don't think that you should waste too much time searching for it. Some of the 'least unpleasant' 'punishments' for unplugging a shore power plug was leaving a couple of used split pins on someones deck. It got worse!
