Looks Rough to me - or at least the top end of Moderate although with all three shots taken with the boat in a very similar attitude it's hard to be sure. It also has something of the look of overfalls about it so perhaps...

...I've now qualified my opinion so much as too make it worthless - sorry.

Wave height looks to be around 2m, so sea state moderate 1.25 to 2.5 metres.

Wind around F5 I would say.

Yes Nick wind was 5kts on the nose, and yes Geoff it was around the MOK but unpleasent for a little while.
The usual, Fear of the unknown, at the time.

Too far out. 30m is more than enough. I bet it would have been flat calm in there.

No longer convinced about the inner passage Ian. We got caught in the overfalls this year and it was big and clapotic all the way to the rocks. Suffice to say any future passages round Mulligan's Tyre will involve a lone sailor sitting on his boat-shaped orifice.

I tend not to apply sea states to areas where you know its going to be lumpy for a bit because there are overfalls or such like. Its just a local anomaly.

If that was open sea and you were comitted for a few hours, then it looks to be moderate.
It is very interesting listening to the skipper giving passenger briefings on the Harwich- Esberg ferry. He will say we are expecting moderate seas and I would certainly be calling them rough to Gawdelpus if we were on Claymore
