Whats at the north end of Loch Linnhe?

I've never been further north in Loch Linnhe than just north of Pt Appin, Shuna etc.
What's it like further north? Is it worth an exploration this weekend?
Corran Narrows?
I saw that little island just north of Shuna is for sale.
What anchorages are there up that direction?

I've heard that if you keep going long enough you can get to Inverness....

We came out under Ballachulish bridge a bit early and the wind over tide made it a bit lumpy South of Corran. When the tide changed it was easy to head North.
The bit just past the narrows looked OK but we carried on.
We had a visitors mooring off the sailing club just South of Fort William. Convenient for shopping but supermarket is @ far end of town if you want more than bread/milk.
The next day it rained so we only went as far as Corpach and locked in to the canal basin for the night. Pleasant walk up to Neptunes staircase. We had a warm welcome at the pub in the evening, after the fight had been sorted out!
Didn't explore Loch Eil so won't coment on that.

Lochaber Watersports was OK if you stop in Loch Leven. We walked about a mile to Glencoe for a pub meal, a bit touristy but... The local hotel was full and the pub in the village had shut down.

Loch Leven is interesting. Going north up Loch Linnhe there is an anchorage just beyond Corran, but Loch Eil is a bit of a dead loss, unless you can enjoy a panoramic view of a cowp.

On the west side of Loch Linnhe there are a couple of reasonable anchorages in northerlies, Camus Chil Mhalieu, more or less opposite Balnagowan, being very attractive, imho.

Didn't explore Loch Eil so won't coment on that.

The tide in the narrows obviously constrains when you can get in and out.

What looks like the best anchorage is in a bay in the SW part of the loch sheltered from the SW, but there is a large and smelly coup directly up wind of it. I have anchored at the head of the loch in calm conditions and don't know how good it would be in a blow.

In clear and calm weather the view near the entrance of The Ben above its reflection is rather fine.

The local hotel is the Isles of Glencoe Hotel. The pub in Ballachulish was closed (May 2011). There were rumours that they had gone tits up, right at the beginning of the season too.

The place in Glencoe, was the Glencoe Hotel. Most of the voices we heard sounded like they lived nearer us than you.

I went to a cracking good Hogmanay Ceilidh there many years ago, mainly because the bass player in the band ("The Aucterby Band" - say it in an Aberdeen accent) was a pal of mine. Mainly a walkers' climbers' place, as I recall.

Ah, apologies. I had assumed from "We walked about a mile to Glencoe for a pub meal, a bit touristy but... The local hotel was full and the pub in the village had shut down." that the shut pub was in Glencoe. I now see my misunderstanding.

I think I was only once in the Ballachulish pub and have no real memory of it. Ballachulish village is bypassed in many ways. The Isles of Glencoe has a swimming pool and used to do a deal if you tied up at the pontoon and ate at the hotel; I don't know if that still works.

Lochaber Watersports had taken over the jetty so it wasn't the hotel that was running it, they are closely linked though. I think that they have 2 or 3 yachts for charter and canoes for hire, or they had. The people in the shop/office were still moving in and weren't properly open, that didn't stop them collecting a mooring fee though.
