Sail Stornoway 2012

Post by Mavanier »

Well that's it for another year- a great week had by, erm, most.
Looked worrying for a while with the northerly winds keeping some visitors from making it up here, but those who did enjoyed sunny weather and fairly stiff breezes.
Highlights for me were that we had 100% attendance in the Wayfarer races (OK, so that's only six boats, but still, it's good), also the Saturday yacht race with about a dozen boats in blazing sunshine and 20kts of wind.
Pics to follow.

I heard on the VHF on Saturday afternoon, as we headed south again, that you were close to a bit of excitement?

Well, I learned how you can turn a yacht into a motorboat in one easy step. Thankfully nobody hurt and the boat otherwise undamaged. Not sure yet of the exact cause but everyone feeling very sorry for the owner, bad things happen to nice people sometimes.

Many thanks to the Sail Stornoway crew for their most hospitable welcome.

Saturday's race was great but for me the high point of the week was sailing on the traditional dipping lug. Can that boat go . The boaty atmosphere in the harbour was rich, the craic was good.

Sail Stornoway and Hebfest is a great combination. Although the sun did shine over Stormyway it took the Proclaimers to make it really blaze. That song was the best in the whole three days.

It's Barrafest next. Currently on a mooring in Tarbert Harris, another little music festival, in the company of "JayBee" and "Fearless Ffriend",a couple of ex Sail Stornoway boats.

And congratulations to the ever triumphing "Marisca" for his great success.

[It is a great combination ?.......They are a great combination ?]
