celestial navigation - course?
Are there any courses in Celestial navigation in Scotland? Where? When? Anyone know?
Geoff.

Googling "yachtmaster ocean scotland" throws up a few possibilities, as does the "Find a training centre" bit of the RYA website.

Is there a Planetarium or Observatory near to you? We have both and IIRC both will run Astronav courses on request. (I get the feeling they actually want students IYSWIM.)mm5aho wrote:Are there any courses in Celestial navigation in Scotland? Where? When? Anyone know?

I bought a book.
Then a plastic sextant, almanac and tables.
Then a GPS.
You can guess the rest.

Re: celestial navigation - course?
Thanks for suggestions.
I now have a book, and it doesn't look so difficult, and its starting to comeback (I did learn when I was about 10!). Think I could manage that. Not so difficult as tedious!

I found it incredibly tedious doing it on my own and gave up half way through. If I ever do it again it will be in a class.mm5aho wrote:Thanks for suggestions.
