first outing 2012

Post by pagoda »

After a horrible January, I finally found a decent day recently to get out. !

I've been doing the liveaboard thing at Ardrossan a lot this winter - as my father has been in Ayr & Crosshouse hospitals.
I took her out myself , in a 3-4 SE with the intention of going round the Cumbraes and back. The morning had some sunshine - though it never got above 3C at any point. Not a soul out sailing, so I got the whole place to myself.
The No 11 buoy off Hunterston was checked- but no dolphin to be seen this time...
Once I got level with the Largs Ferry, the wind picked up to about 15Kts, and went to SSE. Just not wonderful for beating back to Ardrossan :)
However I did the required amount of tacking, and sneaked back in before the Arran boat at about 14:30!

If it looks half decent - get out there!! Re-charge your sailing batteries.! Maybe even take a dram for warming up once you stop

BRrrrrrrr!
Saw the dolphin and baby several times last summer and the summer before. I don't know what the fascination is with the bouy but it always seemed to be hanging around there

ANOTHER first outing 2012!

Post by sahona »

First outing since last August in fact, just to test the engine and make sure the water all stayed on the outside.
So this morning we are back on our berth and starting to refit. It's like having a new boat.
Roll on the warm weather, my hands are freezing.
http://trooncruisingclub.org/ 20' - 30' Berths available, Clyde.
Cruising, racing, maintenance facilities. Go take a look, you know you want to.

Three wee sails so far this year, thanks to the Wayfarer. The Vega remains on her trailer awaiting warmer weather!
