I know a lot of yousyins ain't into racing, and I perfectly understand why. On the other hand, I extract a great deal of pleasure in a team of individuals melding together into one man/machine entity overcoming nature and other sailors - maybe one day I will race in a crew like that, it certainly wasnae today! So while most of you were snuggling deeper into your duvets and the first snows of winter fell on Embra, 12 boats went racing off Port Edgar for the 10.00 start, growing to 18 for the pm start. I wouldn't have been out there if it wasn't a race - what kind of mug goes sailing in Scotland, in December, in snow - but I would have missed a thoroughly exhilarating sail, a fair amount of sunshine, and a wonderful glow topped off with a dram at the end.

I'm glad you asked. Both races actually. The weeks of sailing badly, employing idiotic tactics, hoisting spinnakers sideways, creating new and more exciting ways to screw up, all to push our rolling handicap to astronomic heights finally paid off.

Snow on the Ochils, sun barely making it over the West Lothian bings casting a lovely contrasty light, blue skies, the yellow line of pollutants streaming in an unbroken line from the majestic chimney of Longannet, a tide that was still flowing out 2 hours after it should have turned (has it been raining in the west recently?), 19 yachts and 5 dinghies drifting around in a fitful breeze with a ridiculous number of santa hats in evidence, and, of course, the gleaming unencumbered red of the rail bridge.

Just thought you would want to know!

If so did you not notice the Northern Belle crossing the FR bridge, and me plastered to one of its windows taking pics of the firth, from the inside of course.
Would you have been one of these boats?

Sorry, my eyes were glued to the tell-tales (aye, right!). The bridge looks awfy good from up close. Hope it was a good day, and now we know what takes 4 hours and won't allow you to smoke.

Yes it was most enjoyable (five hours)
Missed the chance for a cig while they swaped the locomotive at Dundee, found out after they even laid the red carpet for a woman who got out for a smoke.
I wasent bothered too much.
The bridge is amazing both in size and design and of course the views are awesome.
First time to see Burnt Isle too, some pretty scenery with the snow covered countryside.
Anyone know what castle this is?
