Baked diesel
I realise that a tiny seep from one fuel injection nut has allowed a shiny tar deposit to build up on my engine block. I should have picked this up earlier but it is dark in there. The deposit is hard and quite difficult to get at. Can anyone recommend a good way to clean it off or should I just paint it? Now I know it is there and have nipped up the nut to stop the seep I don't think any real harm is being done.

Is there Omega 5 (or is it 9 or 3?) in this? If so, open the nut so that you can bake more, not less. I'm told that copious quantities of this vitamin are necessary whilst sailing the western isles.

Sodde's Law dictates that if you paint the blob over, then the paint will discolour in time. Try using a very light solvent such as lighter fluid or white spirit to soak the blob before applying oleum ginglymus.
