2nd hand 2-stroke outboard £395 . . . a bargain?

Post by Nick »

.
Was in Stoddarts today in Oban and spotted a second hand (not showroom condition but not too shabby) Yamaha 2hp 2-stroke for sale today for £395. We got ours six years ago for £100 - one of the best things I have ever bought.

Is there an appreciation on 2nd hand 2 stroke outboards? My 3.5 Johnson cost less than that new about 7 years ago.

The key here is 2 stroke. Getting rarer by the day you see.
Looking at new 2.5hp now around £550.

My 9 year old low hours Merc 3.3hp would probably coin 275 to 300 quid.

I suspect the hint we're getting now is to look after what we've got. My nice big 5Hp single cyl 2st did sterling work over the weekend. Can't remember what type it is though- It's got a canvas cover to keep it pretty.

We still have the engine Don, and it's been 'Dremmelled' with the ships O/N. We also use rigregister, a site that allows you to list all sorts of goodies, but is originally for ham radio equipment,
What I meant by the previous post was that we should be aware that we are using our last 2st and will be forced to procure a noisy, heavy, nasty 4st if anything happens to our current engine.
Incidentally, I have a 3.5hp out on swap-loan for a spinnaker, guess it'll soon be worth a ghoster and a couple of snuffers as well...

Thanks Bill. Don't what happened there but I'd intended to quote from Nick's post and not yours; well, cocked that up then.... I really shouldn't be let out on my own too often.

Ah, Join the club. I'm not allowed to carry money or sharp objects, and need to be accompanied at all times, but the lack of responsibility is positively exhillerating. Matron won't let me drive either, so there's another bonus, slainte!
