Another SWIS update regarding Sunday winds

In south west Scotland we had some light drizzle early yesterday (Sunday) evening. Today is a beautiful day - westerly breeze, 3/8 cloud, pleasant westerlies.

Simon, thanks for sharing that with us. Just a question about the jetstream; it it tracking further to the south than is usual? I seem to recall similar unsettled and generally cold conditions, at least in Scotland, when this has happened in previous years.

There's someone using a programme called Danny's Wind (?) and what I saw looked awfuly like a GSF grib file overlaying the UK. What they're trying to do is predict how much wind there'll be 24 hours or so in advance, erm reliably, in a small patch off the Kent coast. If they get it badly wrong and, say, there's a F7 instead of a forecast F2 they're liable for £250k to £1m per *hour* for the duration of the unforecast event - they'll have some really cheesey acronym like ufo.

It's the National Grid and there'll be 3 big wind farms in that area and that's the cost of having to constrain them.

Your stuff is so reliable they'd be daft not to approach you?
