Lochcarron no more

Post by sam »

The two vistors moorings at Lochcarron have been lifted due to lack of use. Last year they had 12 visitors nights (£120) and the year before only nine. The annual costs were £120 for both, for maintenance and rental. However it was discovered that there was no public liability insurance and therefore it was decided to lift them.

That's a shame, a visit to Lochcarron was on this year's "tentative" list. Do you know what the bottom's like for anchoring? (The sailing directions are on the boat and I'm not.)

I don't have my pilot book or charts to hand either. However there is a lot of mud but not much shelter. The only shelter is at Slumbay, where the local moorings are, however it's then a bit of a walk into the village. The lack of good shelter plus you have to sail past Plockton to get here has always kept visitor numbers down.

Looking much better next week, except for Wednesday. Looks like a high pressure settling in from Thursday onwards . . .

Yes, I've just been looking too. I knew this would happen, I've got to go to London next Sunday for a week which will likely coincide with the good weather. Might get out for 2 or 3 days Thu to Sat, though.
