Poetry Corner...

Post by Mark »

No idea what this is but read it yesterday and it struck a chime:

With the Skerries for my milestones
And the sun's salute and rain -
Send my heart by Kishmul's Galley
And my body by MacBrayne.
When I'm old I'll take the steamer
But the first boat was my aim.

While we're at it, this made me grin to myself in a tourist shop in a gale torn Rothsay a few years back:

Weather Forecasts
Seven old fishermen
Sit on the sea wall in the sun.
A storm a week away,
Frets their blood.
They smoke pipes. They reckon
A few baskets of cod between now
And the purple chasms westwards.

I sit in my rocker
Watching 'the fronts' on a glimmering screen.

We had a poets evening at our house last Saturday eveing, a sort of Anti-Burns night.
It was excellent.

My favourite was this......

The Mayfly

by Douglas Florian
Douglas Florian
A mayfly flies
In May or June.
Its life is over
Far too soon.
A day or two
To dance,
To fly—
Hello
Hello
Good-bye
Good-bye.

and also the longer version.

'Water is H2O, hydrogen two parts, oxygen one,
but there is also a third thing, that makes it water
And nobody knows what it is.
