Currently 'debating' with a man called Carl on the ForArgyll website re. the proposed transit marina in Oban. Here's what he says:
There is, locally, considerable opposition to this proposed ruination of an iconic bay. Phill is far from alone. Most people I talk to say that there are enough berths at north, south, and west of Oban (all connected to Oban by good bus or ferry) not to need to destroy the centrepice of our lovely town. Remember that a transit marina will be only used by people who are essentially caravanners on water, fully stocked with supplies they bring with them from their home towns. OBM may not realise, as they never did a marine biology survey of the bay, that there are eel grass beds there which provide habitat to severely protected seahorses. It is likely that an injunction on this basis will stop any building works in its tracks; much to the relief of most.

No, it's not the Unfrocked One . . . the guy in question is someone who has taken a bit of a shine to me because I have been poking him with a NIMBY stick over the proposed Argyll Array off Tiree
There are a few serious misconceptions in there aren't there? Why do the Frogs subsidise marinas to bring custom to the local businesses, when UK councils insist that yotties spend no money????
Don't they know that Seahorses thrive in marinas too?

No, you were right Jim. It is indeed the Baby-eating Bloodshot Bishop of Balvicar spouting gibberish on ForArgyll - just took me a littel while to realise it. I thought he had given up having been evicted from Seil Chat, from here and from YBW after having almost single-handedly caused the premature death of the Oban Times forum. He must be at a loose end once again.
So - ignore previous statements - I strongly encourage people not to get involved on ForArgyll, which is a very well-meaning site and deserves a lot better.
Seems to know nothing about boats and precious little about Oban not to mention being fixated on the word iconic.
The yachts which will be visiting the transit marina will, by their nature, come fully victualed from their port of departure, should have no reason to visit Nancy Black’s, are hardly likely to need to book into a hotel. At most they might have a pint at The Oban Inn, might buy a fish supper, and might even fork out for an ice cream. I can’t see what else they may spend their cash on seeing as they are, effectively, fully equiped homes which happen to float around a bit
I'm quite sure that Oban would become a major re-victualling point for boats coming from the south and heading further north and the Oban Inn (actually standing on this iconic bay) has been closed since December 2008.
