Just checking through the New Members list and I see a few familiar names from SB who have registered in the last month but not posted and wondered why. All first posts by new members require approval before publication. Usually myself or Silkie will get round to it within a day. This is purely an anti-spam measuere, and one that has proved very effective. I trust it has not stopped anyone posting.

Now this is unfortunate. I've got a ton of respect for TB (although I don't often agree with his opinions!) and I've had two of the best sailing Holidays of my life on Bav 30s! I'm not Chinese though!

In fact my guilty little secret is I love Bavs. I love the way they look. I really love the Sugar Scoop Sterns for access to the dingy/nice place to sit and watch the world. I much prefer to anchor so the space is useful to move about in. The only fault I can really find is the in ability to sail well upwind into a blow but on the rare occasions you want to sail upwind into a blow I can use the engine. 85 per cent of the time I can just choose to go somewhere a bit off the wind.

I've sailed 57 yachts that I can remember and nearly 50 dingies that I can remember and I still love Bavs .

I'll go to do my hail mary's as penance now.

When I was in my teens if we saw a Westerley we used to openly point and laugh.

Then I got on a Westerley 33 for the first timein my 30's. All that headroom. All the space. The big wide arse with roomy aft cabin. I was a convert. It was about the time I started listening to Radio 2!

Folk recon they are slow and won't go to windward, my Centaur does 6+ Kts into the wind if I open her up, it's better @ 5 Kts tho, and that's a 21' waterline. Stormy introduced me to Radio 2, I thought Radio 4 was the only one. There is a local one called Lakeland Radio too, they have adverts on that though, very down market.

6kts and 21' water line length = lots of power to go beyond the hull speed of 1.14 x √(waterline length in feet) = 5.2kts. no much wonder it is so much easier at 5kts. Can you see past the smoke screen that you generate at 6kts?
