Time to ditch KnotPilot?
Time to ditch KnotPilot?
A while back in a flood of enthusiasm and excess of time over winter I started on an online list of notes of a few places that I've liked.
I never finished it and I certainly have no plans to add to it.
This weekend I actually had my first complaint! (Apparently, I failed to mention that the Range Boat Shelters at Chapman's Pool from time to time.)
Shall I just delete it and forget about it?
Suppose I should check out the site statistics and see how many people look.
This is what I'm talking about:

Keeping anything like this up to date is a lot of work and there are always people ready to complain.
I would be happy to give the the Scottish pages a home here - not so interested in the Channel and Ionian sections. I would rework the design a little but essentially leave those sections unchanged, with full credit to you as creator and author. Let me know what you think.

It's a difficult area. A number of different attempts have been made at noting anchorages etc. - the "Boltholes" site you reference is one of the better. For no very obvious reason I decided to get involved with populating the 3PF site. Whether or not it takes off, who knows?

Penguin Boltholes - gone!
.
None of the old links to the latest version of Penguin Boltholes now work and I am not sure if it still exists anywhere. I seem to recall it was a PDF file but I foolishly didn't download a copy. The Charteringhaven.co.uk website that was hosting it has disappeared, and there is no sign of it on the http://fidlersferrysailing.org.uk/ site or anywhere else on Google.
If anyone saved a copy let me have it and I will include it in the Downloads section.

I saved it locally, or at least a version of it. I've put it here:Nick wrote:.

Maybe a few other people could save it locally so it's never lost.
It would be great if it was available from Blue Moment.
PS: Acairseid Mhòr, Eriskay (not to be confused with Acairseid Mhor, Rona). Except they have done just that!

Ah, so it is maybe only temporarily offline.
In any event, there is now a copy on the BlueMoment Downloads page.

WHIT! Did you ask whether he'd read the first few sentences of the home page or just tell him to get away an' bile his heid. There are some right tossers out there.Mark wrote:This weekend I actually had my first complaint!
PS - the sand mine at L Aline has been closed for some years now.

I did what all true Englishmen do in such circumstances, I smiled nodded and agreed with him.Silkie wrote:WHIT! I've long forgotten what I wrote on page 1 but FFS, it couldn't be clearer that I was not able or willing to cover much detail of every place.
I know, it was mentioned on the Radio a short while back and I think it got discussed on here. Tragic.Silkie wrote:PS - the sand mine at L Aline has been closed for some years now.
In the mother of all digressions I notice that the Series 'Coast' when repeated on Dave or Blighty usually features West Coast of Scotland episodes and rarely features the others. I conclude these genuinely are deemed to be better, and rightly so.

Would you like the Scots pages hosted separately on here Mark? I think they contain some useful info, esp. with the Google maps.

A zip file would be easiest - just let me have a URL to download it from or email it to me, thanks.Mark wrote: Yes please. That would be great. Want me to zip it up or can you grab it?

I'll remove it when you've nabbed it.
Now we find out how many hard coded links there are!

Got it, thanks. At first glance a few items may be missing, but I will be able to fill in the gaps from the site, assuming you are going to leave it up until I have had time to put it on here.

Re: Time to ditch KnotPilot?
Yeah, will do. Will remove the zip though. I very much doubt anything's missing, it was all in that directory. The links are a different thing. A grep for freeshostia to locate non relative links???Nick wrote:.
