New Forecast - What Do You Think?

Post by weatherman »

Hi,

For some time many of you have been emailing me expressing your frustrations at existing forecasts available on the web and through other means.

I have been working on a new format for sailing forecasts and have developed the following, about which I would love to hear your opinions.

See what you think by downloading the forecast here:
http://www.weatherweb.net/swchannel.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Now, at the moment this is just for the English Channel, but the idea would be to cover all parts of the UK and northern France with a forecast issued daily.

What I’d like to know is do you like it, is the format understandable, what information could be added, is this something you would use?

As with all of these things cost is a major issue! I can’t produce the forecast for free and so payment would need to be gathered somehow. This could be through sponsorship (do you know anyone) and/or donations. I’d prefer to steer clear of the subscriber route.

If you feel you could help develop this service, whether through sponsorship, contacts with those who may sponsor or in other ways such as developing the website and spreading the word, please let me know.

If the service goes ahead I’d like it to grow organically, through the sailing community and to become a respected forecast which all can trust?

I look forward to hearing your views.

With best wishes,
Simon

Simon
Really like it as it asks then answers the right questions

To improve it there would be a panel which commented on a 2 or 3 day outlook as it is this that probably influences a lot of our decisions.

I would be happy to subscribe - I used to buy Met Office tokens a few years ago and always thought they represented good value for money.

Hope it happens!

My sincere apologies
These fekking DÆånøish laptops

Irish Sea
Galloway to Kintyre including ra Clyde

Kintyre to Ardnamurchan

Ardnamurchan to where it all goes a bit vague but commonly known as Cape Wrath

Thats my bid and does not speak for the vast majority of forum contributors. Shard will probably want Stirling to Dunblane.

Excellent format Simon.

I would definately find it of use.

East coast of Scotland from Duncansby head to the Firth of Tay, with emphasis on the Moray Firth for me please.

Looks good. My areas are included in Claymore's list. One point on this: I've noticed this summer that the Met Office inshore forecast for north of Ardnamurchan, as given out by Stornaway Coastguard, has now been divided, with separate versions given for "The Minch" (which may also include the west coast of Lewis, Harris, etc.) and "Ardnamurchan to Cape Wrath" for the mainland coast. Would this be a distinction worth following, or is that too detailed?

Hi Simon, Like the format and level of detail. There is enough extra to the CG weather info broadcasts (presure/wind charts, detailed outlook) to make it worthwhile - depending on price of course! Just one small suggestion, move the time/date of issue to the top of page 1 rather than the end of the last page as this is important information.
