I see that you haven't been on the forum since Jan so you might not see this - I'll send you a PM which might give you a 'heads up' via email.

I see that you've launched and are on a swinging mooring at Ardlui.

I was there on Tues afternoon, but was working on my woodwork rather than sailing.

The wind strength and direction early on in the afternoon wasn't conducive to a first sail but it quitened down later on.

Have you managed to rig her OK?

I ask because Bill was telling me that he had tried to find info for you because you had 'extra' shrouds and Bill had suggested that the mast might not be origional.

If you study some of the photos on the Eygthene site you will see that 2 shrouds terminate on 1 chainplate with the double spreader rig that you have.

Keep on eye out for Wild Goose - I'm fairly sure that she's an Eygthene 24 - though she has a saildrive and I think a single cylinder diesel.

I've since been told that Wild Goose isn't an Eygthene24.

yep now on the water Ihave been on the site reading posts but never knew just how hard/long/slow doing work on a yacht was ie 6 weekends just removing old antifoul back to gelcoat ( hull was perfect no sign of any problms at all not bad for a thirty something old girl) then sanding back gel coat to then give 6 coats of twopack epoxy well i did go this far
but time was getting on, april by now so planned to be in for end of april and in on june
just where does the time go
Well ash you must have missed us on tuseday we were on vital spark trying out the sails and yep it was windy so we motored down away anchored for while took the dog ashore then the wind died to just a wisper so WE ACTUALLY SAILED BACK reaching 3.6 knots with just the main sail up and even managed to pick up the mooring under sail
As for the rigging we think the last owner just used a bit of rigging of an old mast but we will try and find out
our days off are a tue/wed so may see you then

I had stopped at Bill's P/cabin to buy an electricity card when I saw you with the reefed main up whilst on the mooring but the wind was a bit fierce then.

I had a great days sailing on Wed but came home early on Thurs as it was back to the Ardlui rain.

I'll keep an eye out if I'm up on a Tues / Wed.

You should take Pete up on his offer of photos.

I swung past your mooring on my way into the marina today. Didn't get too close but think that I could see that you have the inline lower and the cap shroud which share the same chainplate. Looked as though your 'spare' shrouds should be aft lowers to counter the babystay but I can't find any photos which show whether there should be any.

I think that we would need Pete to tell us. I suppose another possibility could be running backstays.

Hi all
the problem is that on the lower/shorter standing rigging there are two cables on both sides
with one of the cables being longer and sitting with a lower reach than the chainplate so no way to fit a bottlescrew and no extra deck fittings within reach when moved side to side this is why i think it may just have been something from some other mast ????
so not including the extra cable there are three cables on the chainplate holding the mast

Showing 2 shrouds - cap shroud and one lower each side.


Both shrouds to one deck plate.


Outhaul - it is a standard arrangement - the rope comes from the clew round a pulley in the end of the boom and thence forward inside the boom where it emerges and is then led back to the cockpit.

You probably can't see it, but on the starboard side there is a babystay which is fastened back to the shrouds - the owner doesn't use it. Could it be that on yours instead of having a babystay you have two forward lowers, and they attach to a different point on the deck? That's how my boat is set up, fore and aft lowers and a discontinuous cap shroud.
