Nasty. I'll bet they were going a fair clip at the time to judge from conditions.

Looks like some kind of perch or beacon in some of the shots - watchkeeping failure perhaps? Although it was of course dark and the perch is probably unlit.

Jack Aubrey says the charts of the area are notoriously inaccurate and there are many unmarked shoals. :shock:

IIRC, the currents there are strong & unpredictable. If there was a GPS problem, position fixing can be a nightmare.
