WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
========================
Issued: 1400 Friday 10th July 2009
SATURDAY
Low pressure centred to the southwest of Ireland will be drifting slowly north through the day. An occluded front lies from Northern Ireland to southeast England at midday on Saturday. This front has cloud and some outbreaks of rain associated with it, most of it only light and mainly affecting the west. The second feature on the charts shows fronts and strengthening winds affecting Ireland and southwest England in the morning, this then rapidly spreading northeastwards through the day with much of Ireland, Wales and England wet and windy, with heavy rain in the west by the end of the day. Northeast Scotland should stay drier with sunny spells here, but the cloud increasing.
Winds SE 10-12kt (F3) ahead of the occluded front then mainly S 12-14kt (F3-F4) behind it, then S 20-25kt (F5-F6) over southern and western parts of the country behind the warm front with winds in excess of 30-35kt (F8) in the Irish Sea, southern Ireland, southwest Wales and southwest England.

SUNDAY
Some heavy bursts of shower rain associated with the cold front as it clears eastwards on Sunday morning. The rain probably not clearing northern Scotland until the afternoon as the occluded front clears over the sea. This front bringing rain to Shetland and Orkney by the end of the day.
Behind the cold front will be much brighter conditions with sunny spells, and it should be generally dry too. A few showers affecting western parts of Wales and western England, but heavier showers and more persistent rain through Ireland in the afternoon, these reaching southwest Scotland by the evening. An increasing risk of showers for west Wales and southwest England by evening.
Winds becoming SW 12-15kt (F4) behind the front but increasing SW 17-23kt (F5-F6) on the coasts.
