Metal epoxy
One of he jobs this year is repairing the aluminium window frames or at least stopping them from deteriorating further. Came across Metal Epoxy in B&Q. I had intended painting over the frames (after grinding back to good metal and filling) but the colour match with the cured epoxy is pretty good and I am considering leaving it alone. It says "resists sunlight" but will it stand up to 24/365 exposure? And what's this residue business? There's no mention of that on the packaging.

Re: Metal epoxy
Silkie, I think they are describing the roll of tape below the epoxy metal.
The residue would be any glue left after tape removed.
They also mention "super sharp edges", ideal for masking paint jobs.

Re: Metal epoxy
Aha - well spotted - although I don't think it's the gaffer tape. It seems to be displaying the Additional Information for a superior masking tape.

Re: Metal epoxy
I beg to differ. I think that they mean you can get a good edge/ professional finish.
It looks like the putty the fitters at work used to put in sandwitch joint rings. There are 2 colours of epoxy that you have to mix to an even colour to make sure it's well mixed, then you have a period to work it to what you need. Then it goes off.
I don't quite get the "no residue" bit though, tell you what, have a go and report back what you found.

Re: Metal epoxy
I have done it and it seems to have been jist the very dab but what I need to know is whether I should paint or not?
"no residue" is referring to masking tape.

Re: Metal epoxy
I would have thought that getting paint to stick reliably to the original aluminium would be the problem - so if the colour looks OK - then no painting - go sailing.Silkie wrote: whether I should paint or not?

Re: Metal epoxy
The additional information for this natty yellow masking tape seems curiously apposite for the epoxy putty.

Sorry Aquaplane but I do think they are describing some kind of tape, otherwise what residue would they be referring to.aquaplane wrote:I beg to differ. I think that they mean you can get a good edge/ professional finish.

As you will know if one leaves on masking tape, duct tape etc too long it leaves a residue from the adhesive which can be very difficult to get off especially in the case of masking tape if it gets wet while on, and where does the sharp edge come into the equation with metal epoxy?
Not doubting your inteligence just affirming mine!

Ps Just seen Silkie's last reply, and it does look like they have mixed up their products with the descriptions.

Re: Metal epoxy
I have to admit, I made the rash assumption that the wurdz belonged on the pages that they wuz on, that ain't, so all bets are off.
I think I would use the "showerproof masking tape" it seems just the thing acording to the spiel.
