Thursday night meet-up?

Post by Telo »

The Oban Inn is kind of central I suppose. Could pick up a mooring in the bay perhaps.

Any views, Mr Director?

Crivvens! This is bad news - and it doesn't look like opening again soon (see Oban Times forum thread).

So where else?

I think the only hope is that Nick, now he has demonstrated his talent for successful community-oriented business (i.e. quality burgees to the masses), will step into this breach. I wait for more news with bated breath ...

There are plenty of other pubs in Oban of course. Coasters is reputed to be OK and has spectacular views of Oban Bay although on the down side it has a large tv and my informant is not a beer person. Aulay's is a proper pub but probably too small if half the fleet turn up. The Lorne is bigger but doesn't register on the quality beer front IIRC.

How about the Frog at Dunstaffnage again? At least 2 boats are based there and 2 others managed to get there for the Thursday last year - or Oban Marina although it might be a bit chilly for their alfresco bar.

Where's the Cruise Director?

Seems that the C.D. has spoken, the Wide-mouthed Frog.

Unless of course he meant that the Cruise Director has turned into a frog.

Latest gossip from Argyll is that the Oban Inn will reopen in about 3 weeks time, under new local ownership. I would prefer it over the Frog any time, but I can't make the CC so my opinion doesn't count for much.

Don't know why I'm responding here - this is up tae the SilverSurfer and Paraplegic Doogie. No doubt they'll be skinning me for every mooring, bar and marina bill going...nothing changes.
