Does anybody know anything about loudspeakers?
I have just bought a pair which by my standards were quite expensive. When I set them up it says in the instructions to wire them up out of phase and run them facing each other for 36 hours to run them in.
This isn't going to happen, so how important is this running in procedure?

Re: Loudspeakers
Not at all important - it just speeds up a process which will happen naturally as you use them and their tone will change gradually as they loosen up.

I think you need to hang a sign on them too that says 'Running in'.

Re: Loudspeakers
Pete you should just attach them to a head band and wear them for 36 hrs, you could always listen to Huggy at the same time!

I was incredulous when I read this thread and had a pokey-post all written out before I googled out of interest.
WTF? 100hours to break in the cone suspension! Special CD to stress it, out of phase to stop the neighbours complaining!
Thanks the Lord I'm past all that, with tinnitus and old cloth ears, I probably can't hear 1.2Kcs any more.
I still think it's a bit far stretched though. If it's really critical, they should do it in the factory - or find a better suspension method.

Ah, don't go there if you value your sanity.

Fortunately, as you point out, by the time most of us can afford a decent hi fi our ears are too shagged to appreciate it.
