Eber switch?

Post by Clyde_Wanderer »

Started connecting up looms etc for the eber today (after I dug boat out of snow)
What would be the best suited isolater switch to use for isolating the main power supply to the eber, and should it be a double or single pole?
Manual spec says 16amp main fuse, although it states full heat running consumption is 45watts plus 20Amps in addition to the 45watts for the first 45-70seconds start up.
Would this not blow a 16A fuse on start up?

I had to read your post a couple of times to get the gist.

You're saying that the pump and fan consume 45 Watts ( 4 Amps in round figures ) and the glow pin draws an additional 20 Amps during the ignition stage.

The characteristics of a fuse will depend on it's construction, i.e. depends on how well it can dissapate heat. It will be an exponential curve. It will carry a small overload for a long time, and a large overload for a short time. I don't know for sure but a 16A slow blow style of fuse could well carry 24A for a minute.

I don't see much need of a double pole isolator. There are some advantages but I don't suppose that any of the other negative cables have isolators.

I think that you'll need DaveS and/or those with practical experience of Ebers for a definitive answer on the fuse size.

How about separate breakers for the run and start circuits? If you stick a 25amp in for the lot, it will cover the start current, but will be grossly overrated for the run state, which is how it will spend the majority of its "on" time. 6amp for run, 25amp for start (and a lump of thick wire!!)
