I think Lidl are cheaper but they are not on sale just at the moment. It's frustrating waiting for Lidl to have a sale just so you can put your fire out, don't you find?

I posted on another boaty forum that Lidl had 1Kg dry powder extinguishers for <£10.

I was shot down in flames (pun intended) because the Lidl extinguishers don't have the right numbers on to pass the BSS inspector, they have those on the Norfolk Broads.

I had a get out of jail free card though, I only use the Lidl extinguisher on non-British Standard fires, though I suspect they will work on all fires whether it's a Quality fire or not.

Dunno. There are 5 different approvals visible in the pic but no Kitemark, assuming it still looks like a kite. I haven't yet seen them out of the box since the best brains in Ikea Edinburgh have yet to figure out a way of displaying them that would prevent some eejit setting them off.

Display them in the centre of a circular fire so as no blimey can get near them.

I notice they do, however, have a CE mark on them. Hasn't the CE mark now replaced the British Standard kite mark?

Dunno but as cpedw has already said, I expect they'll be as effective in extinguishing fires, British Standard or otherwise, as you'd expect.

I have a Haylon ext in the boat, 1 of 7 mixed extinuishers in all, should I keep it or get rid of it? it is still fully charged, and I keep it next to the engine compt, what do you think?

Haylon is as good at putting fires out as it ever was, it's the hole on the ozone layer that don't like it.

I would keep it, if it don't work try another extinguisher, if it does, you still have 6 left.

I don't think halon is acceptable to an official inspector (if one comes aboard), but most people I know kept theirs, "just in case".
And here's a wee question for the righteous,
Why should it be OK to own with intention to deploy, a halon extinguisher -which is a proven hazard, but not describe anything that may be construed as bl@ck?

PS might I add, that we keep them but hope we dont have to deploy them, and perhaps the smoke from a fire would probably cause a lot more damage to the O L than the use of the Haylon ext which one might use to extinguish the said fire.
