Cheers for the Corribee

Post by Clyde_Wanderer »

Here is a clip of my mate John on his very first trip (from Largs to Millport) in "Vixen" his Corribee.
I accompanied him across so as to take him back, it was a good test for someones first time in their boat.

Weather looked a bit unpleasant.

My 2 favourite small boats, Hurley 22 and the Corribee. What keel config does Vixen have?

Hi Vixen is a bilge keeler, infact in one of the video's I took that day, one of them can be seen partly out of the water.

Brave fellows , as already observed it looked cold and wintry. I hope he will soon learn to move the sheet lead forward going downwind..

I know there's always a lot of debate about performance with bilge keels but I like them and I think the Corribee and Hurley both perform more than adequately even if there is some loss of windward ability. Most of the time pottering about it isn't an issue. I hope they get loads of enjoyment out of her.

Were you lucky enough to do most of the trip downwind?

Aitchw, I was on my boat running along them, from where I took the video.
The trip was only from Largs marina to Millport bay, but my mate has had vixen to Campbeltown this year too, with some not so nice weather on the last leg down to Davar.

FFS Charlie, is that it? Could we not tease a wee anecdote or maybe a piccie out of you?

Merry Christmas anyway. Are you coming over for the CC in May to make Silkie look big?

Hi Nick,

Poor attempt at a post I have to concede, although I was merely trying to up my post rate as I wish to progress from Able Seaman to the lofty heights of whatever is next in rank.
I was going to post a wee bit of footage of Windrush being swept through the Falls of Lora but not sure how to do it.
Yes, I will be at the CC in May.
Given the musical bent that this event obviously takes, I am fitting a set of bow doors purchased from the old Colonsay ferry to the Corribee so that I can load in my piano.

Merry Christmas to you and Kathy.

Excellent news!

I can only see one possible downside. On previous cruises, as smallest boat, I have been able to cry "Ooerr" and suggest a change of course. Now I'll have to tough it out until you decide you've had enough of a beating! :)

Regarding posting vids or pics you need to have them hosted somewhere which allows linking and then place the links here. A free Photobucket account will allow both and provide the the appropriate string for the forum too.

Thanks for that Silkie.
I have set up a photobucket account and have posted a picture of Windrush after winning the inaugural Johnshaven Fish Festival "See how many fenders you can attach to one side of a boat contest".
Runners up are in the background.
