What's Potree like for visitors moorings? Hoping to get there next summer.

I was in Portree in 2007 (bad weather precluded those latitudes in 2008!). In 2007 (late July) there were visitor moorings but they were all utilised (I did arrive after approx 1800 so a bit late), so anchored near the slipway. But beware, although there was space to anchor, the harbourmaster was amazed that I did not foul my anchor. Mind you this did not stop him charging me a fiver for anchoring (apparently Portree owns the seabed). There is also a pontoon near the slipway. This was not for overnight berthing, but although I did not use it would very handy for taking on water and supplies. I am sure that 2008 visitors can provide more up to date info.

About 1995 I had the tremendous republican satisfaction of keeping passengers from RY Britannia waiting to land at Portee for a few minutes while I filled my water tanks. A fine wee toon with several excellent hostelries.

Yes there are visitors moorings with pick up buoys at Portree. When I was there in August, I thought that they had all be taken, but there's another group of VM in the north of the bay close to the sailing club. You can land your tender at the sailing club then it's a nice walk into town, or you can motor over to the slipway at the pier. Cost is £10, payable at the RNLI.

I was there in April and there were plenty of moorings, all in excellent condition as far as I could tell. We were the only visiting boat there. Thinking about it, I'm not sure we paid.
