Revamping site to valid HTML 4.01 and valid CSS 2.1

Post by Nick »

.
When this site was first built in 1999 web standards were very different, and the code underlying many pages on the site is quite frankly a shambles. Some of you may have (for example) noticed differences in the way pages display in different browsers.

I have now made a start in upgrading the listings pages at least to modern web standards. So far only one page had been done, the deliveries page at http://www.bluemoment.com/deliveries.html, but the intention is to upgrade each listing page the next time it is edited or added to.

You will be able to tell which pages have been upgraded because they will have these logos on them:

Clicking on either of these logos (on the page, not here) will take you to a page that confirms the validation.

One result will be a more uniform look to the pages across browsers. Another bonus is that it will make sitewide changes in design easier in future.

Any feedback or comments will be (as always) very welcome.

EDIT: - Progress

I retired from the Eworld in 1998. I'm happy for you to look after it for me as long as the 'I Bring Magic' Toy Company pension fund is not adversly affected. Needless to say, I haven't a 'kin clue what you're doing on my behalf, but I thank you for it, as it will no doubt make life simpler in future. If I bring my laptop to Balvicar, can you make it faster as well?

You have my sympathy, my web site (now defunct) was a joy to work on NOT. It was hand coded and fairly lean, but I still got lost on occasion and sent a table haywire.

When the guy who designed he site decided to stop being a web designer I had to learn pretty fast how to look after stuff, I never got the hang of Java but muddled through with HTML and CSS.

I saw PHP and ran for the hills.

Have fun changing every page, how many are there?

At your current average of 4 a day, it's gonna take a while.

Delegate, delegate.

Or does the TAASC only deal with the forum?

Hand out the passwords, and we'll all do a couple of pages each!!!

Agreed it is rocket science, my ex could get into all sorts of trouble with the-mob-shop.co.uk when I was sat at the side of her, it was easier to do it meself.

It would be absolute mayhem trying to do it by remote control.
