Can we keep it generally boaty?
Came on here a while back, mainly because it was a boaty forum, now we seem to be getting a lot of financial/economy crap which should be kept for such forums.
Lets ban the political and financial stuff and try to keep it generally interesting for all.
There is enough of that on TOP.

Yes we can keep it generally boaty and it is generally boaty. However, a total of three threads on the biggest crisis to hit our society since WW2 isn't exactly excessive IMO though . . . and only one was started by me, so make sure you have a go at Para and Jimi as well. At least they both look like trolls.
Is HB coming out or staying in this Winter?

Hi Nick, I wasent trying to get at anyone personally, just stating my feelings about some of the topics.Nick wrote:Yes we can keep it generally boaty and it is generally boaty. Good timing, HB came out today, and is now tucked up in her bed for the winter.
I have been offered a place to crew in races on a J30 for the autumn, and will try to take up that offer when I can get away, as it will keep me in trim.

I've never felt very keen on the tropics either, in fact, I rather like the climate here.Clyde_Wanderer wrote:just stating my feelings

Bit late on parade for telling us what to talk about don't you think?
Anyway - is all your talk solely about the cut of your jib when you are out sailing -
I think the majority of us use the forums as an extension of the practical sailing we do and the conversations we would normally have. If anything the conversations I have on here with James and Parascender are far more sensible on here than ever they can be when we are out sailing - you would be welcome to join us on a chentleman's cruise sometime to verify that statement if you wish. As for Nick - well he never spoke a word of sense in his life about boating.
I agree with Nick - there have only been one or two chats about finance and they will fizzle quite quickly as the next issue of general interest appears - should be some International Rugby fairly soon so no doubt someone will be sticking a tenner on the wrong team.

Re: Can we keep it generally boaty? Maybe...
Nah. Actually, i think it would be best with just one forum, or at least fewer than current - because that way you get to "know" other posters better, especially when numbers grow. You wouldn't have much of a converstaion with someone if they and everyone else had to move to different rooms for different topics.Clyde_Wanderer wrote:Came on here a while back, mainly because it was a boaty forum, now we seem to be getting a lot of financial/economy crap which should be kept for such forums.

But well, okay, yeah, it's a boat forum, so mostly boats of course. Or things you'd talk about on boats, which again would be mostly boaty, ish. Weather is boatyish cos you need that. Massive finacial crash also affects all, so that's not out of bounds.
However, jokes for instance though, especially rudish jokes, they'd be right out of bounds, such as the one where the vicar is booking into the hotel and asks the receptionist "I trust the porn TV channel in my room is disabled?" and the receptionist says "No sir it's just a regular porn channel you sick b*stard!!"... that sort of thing definitely right OUT.
