Shiney bits on Visitors' moorings

Post by Mehitabel »

Made it to Loch Ranza for Sat night, but didn't get there until well after dark. After some interesting manouvers with a fishing boat lit up like a christmas tree in the entrance, desperately trying to see his nav lights and avoid him and the buoys he was chucking overboard, I tackled the issue of finding one of the visitors' moorings. Fortunately some considerate body has put reflective tape on them so it was easy enough to spot them by torch light. This is the first time I have picked up a mooring in the dark, I usually anchor when arriving late, but it seemed to me that reflecive tape should be a standard fitment, I don't recall spotting it on other mooring buoys. Well done Loch Ranza! Fortunately arrived so late that I was not tempted visit the hotel.
