Charity Auction for Pete's Cancer Sail

The Leatherman Wave Salty John generously donated on TOP to the next donor to Pete's Ailsa Craig sail ended up in my posession, so I have decided to offer it for sale here.

The sale is in the form of a 'sealed bid' auction with bids to me by PM. The highest bid by Friday 12 midday will win the item contingent on them immediately posting the amount on Pete's page for all to see. There is no reserve, and I will pay the postage and dispatch the Leatherman immediately.

Can you please explain it to me?
For instance I havent seen anything about SaltyJohn's Leatherman thingy.

John (on YBW, not here) generously offered a Leatherman Wave from his stock to the next person to donate Ã‚Â£30 to Pete's appeal. I did so and duly received the Leatherman.

The Leatherman is now for sale here to raise more money. The buyer will pay by donating directly on Pete's fundraising page once the winner is announced on Friday. There is no reserve, but I would be upset if it went for less than a tenner.

(Pete originally posted his appeal on TOP for obvious reasons - they have 31,000 registered users. When it ground to a halt there I invited him to post on here, and I am delighted to say that proportionately we seem to be a much more generous bunch)

Thats great Nick, but I still dont understand what (TOP) is.
Does that mean I couldent make a bid and pay Pete personally?

TOP is an acronym. It stands for 'The Other Place'

Anyone making a bid for the Leatherman is agreeing in the event of them winning to post their winning bid/donation publicly on Pete's subscription page in the interests of transparency. You do not have to give your own name, and if the winning bidder does not want to then they can either tell me what pseudonym they are going to use or I will ask them to add a random number of pence to the donation so everyone can see the amount posted. If anonymity is their bag then only I will know who made the winning bid.

Anyone who wants rather to make a donation privately is of course very welcome to do so, but they will not be in the running for the magnificent prize. There is a historical reason for this which Pete may care to explain to you, but I am not saying anything more on the subject.

justgiving only accepts whole pounds IIRC.

Then they will just have to tell me what name they have recorded it under - I don't see a problem . . .

apropos the difference between a wave and a kick, i see the wave has " all locking blades ". if the knife blade locks there is a possibility possession of such an item in a public place could be a crime in certain circumstances.
the kick seems to make no such claim but i suggest you check it out.
