Hello again,

A mixed weekend overall but one that shouldn’t be a wash out.

Have you seen the new video on the Learning Channel at Weatherweb.TV (http://www.weatherweb.TV). It describes how low pressure forms. There are forecasts at Weatherweb.TV all weekend too.

If you have a friend who wants to receive this forecast each week they just need to send an email to sailingweather-subscribe@weatherweb.net
Best wishes,
Simon

WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
Issued: 1400 Friday 1st August 2008

SATURDAY:
A southwesterly flow across the country during today, and rather an unstable flow too. Low pressure is to the north of Scotland, and this has an occlusion associated with it which is affecting northern Scotland. A trough moves eastwards through Ireland, bringing some showers, with a more active frontal systems moving eastwards through the Channel.
So, plenty of cloud around over most of the country. There will be showers at times, most of them over the west and south. A few of the showers could be heavy inland for a time, and the risk of a thunderstorm can't be ruled out.
Through the English Channel there is the risk of some thicker cloud produces some spots of rain at times.

To the north there will be some heavy showers around as well, although thicker cloud and some rain is expected to affect northern Scotland.
Winds will be from the SW 12-15 (F4), perhaps increasing 15-10kt (F5) over southern Ireland, southwest Wales and southwest England later. For northern Scotland winds will be mainly SW F3.

SUNDAY:
Low pressure drifting into northern Scotland on Sunday morning. A westerly airflow covers most of the country, although fronts will not be far away lying west to east through the English Channel.
It will be another day of variable cloud and a scattered showers for most of the country. The showers should be well scattered, although an odd heavier one can't be ruled out.
Some thicker cloud affects the central and eastern parts of Scotland where there will be showers and longer spells of rain here. Some heavier showers affecting Ireland with a risk of thunder here.
Southern coasts of England will find some lower cloud and rain flirting with them at times. This could bring some rain towards the evening, although note that the cloud and rain will be along northern coasts of France for much of the day.
Winds will be W-SW 10-14kt (F4) for most, becoming cyclonic over the far southwest. Mainly W 10-14kt (F3-F4) for Ireland and W-NW 10-15kt (F3-F4) for Scotland.
