Not only was I first to post on this fourm, I'm going to be second as well. . . .
I've just downloaded the pdf shipping forecast areas and map from the RYA website. Can someone please explain all the numbers on the map? They seem to be in groups of 2 - for example, off Peterhead there is 5 over 13, while away out to the west in Rockall, there is 9 over 13.
I couldn't find an explanation on the RYA site, but it may be there somewhere!

The numbers relate to sea temperatures in March and September (I think).

Re met map...
if you look at the bottom left hand corner it tells you when the mean temperatures are for..
They are much undervalued as if used with the "dew point" from wet/dry thermometer they will give probablity of fog out at sea.
I never understand why people do not use sea temperature ( often on speedo) for this purpose. I use mine for minimum swim temp as well.e.g. 25.8 deg C!
