Re: Anchor rode

Please tell me where I am going wrong. Hi Bill, Same for me, I have nothing to gain if you use an all chain rode, rope or mixed line… Your description of the catenary action of the chain is perfectly exact... With low wind, the chain will never be fully lifted from the bottom, and one may as...

Re: Anchor rode

should have enough chain to provide the correct catenary ... The shock-absorbing effects of chain catenary provide the least benefit ( to the point of being non-existent ) at precisely when you need it the most. In other words, catenary's effectiveness as a substitute for line elasticity is inverse...

Re: Annual Anchor Musings

Hi Clyde_Wanderer, It is perfectly your right to disagree with my theories... They are two types of penetration, the first one, the static penetration, and then the dynamic penetration. Hi Clyde_Wanderer, Many thanks for your suggestion.. May I also suggest you to put the "end of quote&...

Hi Clyde_Wanderer, It is perfectly your right to disagree with my theories... When I talk about holding, I’m not talking about the setting of the anchor, but as you evoke this question, let’s talk about it: They are two types of penetration, the first one, the static penetration, and then the...

Re: Annual Anchor Musings

So do you reckon that a 10kg bruce is too small/light for my HB30 which is 3.2 tonne displacement? This is a common mistake to classified anchors with their weight. An equal weight, the efficient blade (fluke) surface area of a fisherman anchor, a Bruce or a CQR anchor and any « New gen » anchor ar...

For this size of boat, you would need our model R 600 (4.75 kg) or a concurent anchor of 10 kg (about 600 sq cm of surface area)

Re: Annual Anchor Musings

I didn't see any prices on your site João. How much for a 600 or an 800 and how about shipping costs? Just idle curiosity - don't go to any trouble. Price list is on: http://www.ancoralatina.com/acolhimento/ingles/distributors/Price_list.html Shipping costs: depend on the location where you are and...

Re: Annual Anchor Musings

AL - any plans for a distributor over here? Hi Silkie Up to now, we are selling direct to UK, for small sizes ( up to R 800 - for boats up to 33 feet) we can send them by post and the shipping cost is reasonable. We have several contacts with distributors in UK and we are also planning to start a l...

Re: Annual Anchor Musings

Hi Silkie, Bügel means « BSH » (big stupid hoop  ) or « Roll bar » in English. This design has been patented by Peter Bruce, more than 60 years ago. and used again by Rolf Katzirek to design the Bügel anchor. This BSH is used by anchors which don’t have enough weight distribution to dig in the ...

Re: Guess the anchor

- 30 kg SPADE (model S 1400), blade surface area (holding) of 1400 sq cm - 30 kg RAYA (model RAYA 2000) blade surface area of (only) 2000 sq cm or 43% more  ! Just as a matter of interest, how does the ROCNA compare ? The Rocna 30 (30 kg) as a blade surface area of 1590 sq cm, still 26% less t...
