Re: Tide
A friend lent me his copy a couple of months ago. Fascinating.

Gael Force own brand anti fouling paint
Anyone used it? Did it work? Just thinking about what, in due course, to anoint my bottom with and this seems like an economical product.

Re: Stuart seawater filter
We had one of these in the green boat, it seemed past its best so I was able to source a new plastic mesh strainer from ASAP Supplies at a relatively modest cost.

Re: Change of boat
Well that took a while, but eventually the webmeister has given me my new identity. Fingal will be based on the Forth this year but all being well she will be in the west for 2019. In the meantime she is having her 'professionally maintained' but deeply excentric and somewhat archaic electrical syst...

Re: Drinks
I'm delighted that The Oban Inn has re-emerged onto the vibrant cultural scene but it's a bit of a trek for a few pints of beer. Of the dates Silkie suggests I could do any except 23/11 when I have an appointment to drink beer and eat curry, so I think the December dates are better for me. Any bar w...

Re: The Russians are Coming
According to the Weegie Herald the son of some Russian oligarch called Strzhalkovskiy, a very close KGB mate of Putin's, has bought Knockdow House and estate on Cowal. That it is cheek and jowl with the Loch Striven NATO pier and oil tanks must just be a coincidence. The WH reckons he is a "ya...

Re: Change of boat
I see you are already seeking advice on modifications to the strings of your new vessel on TOP. I presume headlining will feature soon in your posts as will where to put the mainsheet track to avoid garroting crew during inadvertent gybes. Do enjoy your new toy, Fulmars are fine boats. Is she fin o...

Change of boat
Since I am no longer burdened by either work or a Rival 38, as of Tuesday I will be the sole owner of a very nice 'new' boat. Those of an ornithologically literate persuasion will immediately infer, from my new avatar, the character and origins of said magnificent vessel. My username should also cha...

Re: Green Boat No More
I’m close to buying another boat as sole owner. The syndicate has been mostly OK but with some disadvantages, especially now I have more free time.

Green Boat No More
Well, as of today Cherry Ripe is under new management. Tim the new owner is going to be living aboard, at Dunstaffnage for now, so please say hello if you're passing. I will be applying for a change of identity here very shortly if all goes well over the next few days.

Re: Jim McWhir, Rival34 "Rona"
I wish I'd met him. My cousin , who is a vet, used to drink with him in the Alan Ramsay at Carlops, a recently deceased neighbour of mine will have worked with him at Roslin, and Rona of Melfort was the boat I used for my yachtmaster exam in 1994, before Jim had her. What a tiny, densely connected p...

Re: All Ships Calls on DSC
i've also been annoyed by this. From memory the last time it happened it did identify as Stornoway CG presumably as someone with time on their hands entered various CG centres' `mmsi numbers into the radio's memory. I do miss the old green Sailor VHF with the big clicky dial for channel selection an...

Re: CC2017
Anchored in Oitor Mor Bay on May 1st. I declare this officially the Chentleman's Cruise 2017. Where are youse all? Well, Cherry Ripe was on her way back to Dallens Bay on 1st May after Sunday in Tobermory. As we were parked next to Bob & Erica in Seminole for 24 hrs at the weekend, we were the ...
